Experiencing Content on any Device: A Conversation With Glenn Britt

Yesterday, we announced that we’re developing an iPad app with the first in a series of videos that document a conversation between me, our CEO Glenn Britt, our CTO Mike LaJoie, and VP of Web Services Jason Gaedtke. The story got picked up by Light Reading and NewTeeVee, if you want to get their take on this.

In this video, the second of the series, Glenn elaborates on his vision for moving content to any screen, on any device, at any time:

It’s been noted that many iPad apps from cable companies are primarily focused on DVR management and navigation. What would you want to see from a cable company in addition to DVR management, navigation, and TV Everywhere capabilities? Let us know in the comments …

  1. I would really like to see apps and focus on more platforms than iOS. Yes apple has a huge marketshare and making a great app for them will get media appeal, but developing for Android and Blackberry and WebOS may get just as many users. In fact Android is the fastest grown OS and since there are so many carriers and devices available and being launched with that OS, it will pass Apple very shortly (if it hasn’t already)

    Top Requests:
    1. DVR Management
    2. TV Guide Functionality with show description
    3. On-Demand Content
    4. YNN

Pretty much the items you stated!

  2. Ive been doing all of this for over a year now on TWC using a cable card with my 3 Tivo HD boxes in my home. With the brilliant iTV App I can view guide information, instantly change the channel on any of 3 Tivo boxes, and record programs whether I’m at home or not. In addition, the iTV App allows me to order a DVD on Netflix, or see if additional contact is available on the web. Content that relates to the show I’m watching or looking for.

So in regards to this app, I guess I can just say I’m glad TWC is trying to catch up here?

  3. When do you plan on introducing this. Comcast already has their app out. I hope sometime soon. And will it be related to one type of specific cable box. Will it be introduced in ALL Time Warner markets? I can’t wait. The second version of the ipad is on its way out soon and still no app for Warner Cable? I would agree too an android version might be good to produce however the Apple OS seems to be more mature and stable.
