A lot of times I’ll be walking down the street and a half-remembered snatch of an old TV theme song will drift through my head. Once I lock in on it (usually it’s just the A-Team theme again) it makes me want to watch the show really, really badly. But by the time I get home, I’ve walked past a bunch of other stuff and am thinking about squirrels or dinner or worrying that I offended somebody with an e-mail. Sometimes all three.
Then hours later I’m sitting in front of the DVR trying to remember what it was. I always forget, shrug and watch Soul Train reruns again.
It’s really a rich tapestry.
But our new Remote DVR Manager changes that. We’re thrilled to announce that our customers across most of our footprint can now use our Remote DVR Manager to manage scheduled recordings on their DVRs at home from a computer or browser capable mobile device.
As of October 18th, 2010, we will be launching our Remote DVR Manager in the following markets:
As of October 29th, 2010, customers in El Paso, Austin, Corpus Christi, Laredo and the Midwest (excluding NE Ohio and Green Bay) will also be able to use our Remote DVR Manager. We should also be able to launch Dallas in the 4th quarter of 2010.
If you are reading this before the aforementioned launch dates, please be advised that the products may be “soft-launched” in your area already. In that case, feel free to give them a try, but please be aware that we’re not all the way cleaned up for company yet and you may not have the optimal experience that we hope to provide by the launch date.
I thought I’d pull together a quick tutorial that would show our customers how to use Remote DVR Manager to perform the tasks that most people are likely to use. We’ve also got a much more advanced, in-depth user guide, as a PDF. All the photos below are pretty tiny, click on them to see much larger/more legible versions.
First of all — to log in via MyServices:
1) Go to: My Services
2) The MyTV tab within MyServices shows your scheduled recordings, a quick search field and also shows a link to the mobile version (mdvr.timewarnercable.com). The mobile version works best on smartphones – please bear in mind that Remote DVR may not be available to all mobile devices. The full site doesn’t render too well on mobile browsers, and we want you to have the best possible experience.
3)To view TV listings:
You’ll see the familiar grid guide. Click on a show to expand, view info and set a single or series recording.
4)To schedule a recording:
Press the “record” button to order a one-time recording (or click “setup series recording” to schedule as a series.)
5)Search by title
You’ll see your search results here. You can get more information or schedule a recording directly from the results.
Search by keyword
Here you’ll see a keyword search for “Italian,” with “cooking” as a genre filter

In the Show List tab you can view, change, and cancel upcoming recordings. Here’s all the upcoming recordings for the living room DVR:
Here you can see the expanded info from the show list entry, get more information, edit your recording options or cancel a recording altogether. We can’t yet delete past recordings. However, we know that it’s important, and we’re working hard to implement this in a future release:
Right now this service is only available to our customers in the aforementioned areas. But we’re working to roll it out to all of our customers nationwide. We know you all want it, and we’re working really hard to make it a reality. Please bear in mind, too, that some services are not available to CableCARD customers, and not all equipment supports all services.
If you’re reading this post after our launch dates and have any feedback or see any bugs, please let us know in the comments section. Our developers and product people will be checking in, and they’ll take all of your input on board for future iterations.

The Motorola devices do not support the ‘Remote DVR’ service. To make use of this feature you must exchange your current Motorola device for one of the others available in your area, most if not all other devices should support this feature.
It’s a frustration I know, especially if you have a collection of recordings on the disk because you will lose these recordings when you swap-out your device.

Charlie

I’m writing in regards to your Remote DVR Manager for mobile in the Raleigh, NC division. Are there any plans to offer an easy-to-use Android application? I have spent about 2 hours trying to program my DVR via my smartphone with no success. Finally, I contacted TWC via Facebook. They advised my of mdvr.timewarnercable.com, which did work, but was still a pain operate. Per your previous comments 15 months ago about developing an Android app, but rolling out mobile website in the meantime… What happened?? Where is it??

So is the only way to get Remote DVR Service in 90049 (Los Angeles, CA) to get a non-Motorola Cable Box?
Please confirm if the Remote DVR service is available in 90049, and if so, what specific equipment is required.
Thanks.

Annnd…a year later, turns out that my TWC-subscribing home in LA still doesn’t have remote DVR manager, when it’s supposed to be universal.
How long does it take to get something like this running?!

Just a note, I’m in the 91006 area code. And with a Motorola cable box. Non-motorola cable boxes not available.

Ronda – You’ll be pleased to know that we have just launched an app that allows you to use your Android phone as a DVR manager, with iOS coming in early 2012. (posted and emailed)

As always TWC in LA is terrible! No HBO GO, No DVR Manager. And service goes in and out. They can’t seem to figure out how to get these things working.
But when it comes to daily phone calls offering me their internet service their performance is outstanding. Every evening, even on Saturday. If only the service was as consistent as the pushy sales people.

Elizabeth – we don’t have one at this time, but should have something out in Q1 of 2012.

Far as I can tell Dallas/North Texas still doesn’t have remote DVR for 75002. Wish you would stop teasing with all the ads.

I just replaced my Scientific Atlanta DVR at the local Time Warner office and was given a Samsung DVR. While there I was told about the ‘MyServices’ and the ability to use remote programming with my smart phone. Is there really a Time Warner app supporting this capability or is it only done in MyServices logged in with Safari?
