Regular readers of this blog should be interested to know that as part of the National Broadband plan, the FCC has begun a project that is an attempt to establish a standard hardware-based test for measuring broadband performance in the US.
This test expects to cover many aspects of users’ Internet experience, from the speed of downloading a large file to the quality of video streaming or making an over-the-top VoIP call. The FCC, through its chosen contractor, SamKnows, will be conducting the tests to gather and report data that the FCC expects will provide American consumers, generally, with more information on broadband performance in the US based on the results of test participants’ data.
The FCC is still looking for volunteers to sign up to be test participants. If you are interested in learning more about this test or volunteering to participate, you can visit the FCC sign-up page at www.testmyisp.com
