A couple weeks ago, we announced that we were launching our TWC TV App for Android Tablets. A number of people were excited, and a number of other people said “hey great, when can I use it on my Android phone?”
Here’s your answer: you can download the TWC TV app on your Android phone from the Android Market today! We’re publishing to the marketplace right this minute, but it may take a few hours for the update to propagate across all servers. If you check right now and don’t see it, try it again after lunch.
It’s exactly the same as the one for Android tablets — here are the key features:
The application is available to video customers at the standard (expanded basic) level or higher, with at least one compatible Navigator set-top box or DVR. Analog (cable ready) customers and those with Motorola set-top boxes or DVRs running iGuide will not be supported.
Please note, too, that live streaming TV is not available in this incarnation. Once manufacturers and cellular carriers begin to upgrade their phones to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), we will release an update to offer in-home live TV on these devices. We expect to see those upgrades early next year.
We are also well aware that people would like a version of this for iPhones as well. That should be along in January 2012/early Q1.
As always, out product people track the comments on blog posts that announce their work. If you have input, see bugs, or have a good idea for future releases, please let us know in the comments sections.

Absolutely love the attention us Android users have been getting from you guys recently! Keep it coming! App works well on my EVO…. can we get support for landscape mode in the guide for easier viewing?

I am getting the “Sorry we did not find a compatible DVR or set-top box” message. If that is correct, how do I get the correct DVR box?

I am getting the same error as above when trying to login to the Droid app today…the error is “Sorry we did not find a compatible DVR or set-top box” message.
However this app has worked for the last week with no problems whatsoever and I recorded shows using the app on my phone over the weekend. Is it possible we had a power outage and the cable box is powered off or something that would cause this?

Brandon, do you have a Motorola box? I don’t think it works with regular Moto DVRs. You can upgrade to a whole house DVR and it should work with that.

Small bug / annoyance… on the tablet version the program is way too sensitive on reading a forward / back gesture. All too often I’ll be scrolling down on the guide and the program will move forward an hour thinking I swiped to the left. You have to be very deliberate when scrolling up or down…. the smallest motion left or right moves the time.

I have the MOTO DCX3400 DVR. I presume this is “not a compatible DVR”?

I can;t wait for an iPhone version of this app! It doesn’t even HAVE to stream live TV at first! As long as I can set my DVR and change the channels, I am good! The live streaming can come later!

I’m getting the same “sorry, we did not find a compatible dvr” when I try to use my Thunderbolt cell. It worked last week just fine.
When I log in with my wife’s iPad I can watch streaming movies, but if I click on DVR I get “Cable box not responding”.
I have a Scientific Atlanta box Explorer 8300HD.

So, any word on when you plan to update this to stream video on Android tablets? ICS is already out and is already mid february. I see you guys released the app with streaming for desktops, but Android still gets no love.
Makes me want to cry.

Santeno – you have a flair for the dramatic. We should have something for streaming by the end of Q1/end of March.

Why not support earlier Android vers? Most phones are not even at honeycomb, let alone ICS.
