We Are Deploying Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot and Recharging Stations in Lower Manhattan

This is great news for power/Wi-Fi deprived New Yorkers that want to get in touch with their families and loved ones – from our press release:

To help New Yorkers in hard-hit areas like Lower Manhattan and Staten Island who are without power, we are deploying multiple vehicles with mobile charging stations and free WiFi access points. Local residents are welcome to charge their consumer devices such as smartphones and laptops and access a 4G WiFi connection.

New Yorkers can follow @TWCable_NYC on Twitter to learn the location of the vehicles, which will make extended stops initially this afternoon in the residential areas of the Chinatown, Flatiron district and West Village. Friday, Time Warner Cable will announce additional stops in its service areas. Time Warner Cable retail store locations in Staten Island and in Queens Center Mall also welcome anyone to enter and recharge their devices.

Time Warner Cable will also open all of its WiFi spots in the City so that anyone can take advantage of its high-speed network. Time Warner Cable’s local news channel, NY1, has made all content readily available on its website (NY1.com) for any site visitor without having to log in.

“Our extensive preparations for the storm, in addition to the incredible work of our employees, allowed us to maintain service for the majority of our New York City area customers,” said John Quigley, Regional Vice President for New York City operations. “For those customers who lost service during the storm, we have been and will continue to work diligently to restore services as quickly as possible.”

Customers without service are encouraged to visit TWC.com and m.timewarnercable.com/hurricanesandy (mobile site) to see progress reports on service recovery efforts.

Time Warner Cable customers who see a downed cable line in their area can call (212) 358-0900 or (718) 358-0900 to report this information. All Time Warner Cable stores in the New York City area are open for business, except for a store on East 23rd Street in Manhattan and a location in Mt. Vernon, NY, which are currently without power.

Time Warner Cable’s New York City service area includes Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and western Brooklyn, Mt. Vernon, NY, as well as Bergen and Hudson counties in New Jersey.
