In Good Company: Tessie Topol Joins 826 National Board

We’re excited to share that Time Warner Cable Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility & Community Affairs, Tessie Topol, has recently been appointed as a new member of the 826 National Board.  826 is a network of eight non-profit centers that works with more than 29,000 low-income students, ages 6-18, to improve their writing skills through a series of innovative programs.

Topol, an 826 fangirl who lives a stone’s throw from their NYC tutoring center — or “Superhero Supply Store” — shares her excitement about joining the board, which includes 826 co-founder and esteemed author Dave Eggers:

Having worked at, volunteered for, and now funded many different non-profit organizations, I recognize how special 826 is. I witnessed this firsthand when my company, Time Warner Cable, joined with 826 National to integrate hands on science learning into curricula at its New York and Los Angeles locations this past summer. It’s an amazing thing to see an organization adapt and change for the betterment of its students, while retaining its unique flavor. I look forward to fostering more of this growth.

At the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI): America thought leadership summit this past June, Time Warner Cable and 826 National announced a partnership designed to expose kids to hands-on science learning through creative writing.  Borne out of this CGI “Commitment to Action,” we funded the development of an innovative pilot workshop series for ninety students ages 7-12 in 826′s NYC and LA locations. These workshops incorporated science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) principles into 826 National’s proven creative writing model.
