As Of 5PM EST, Time Warner Cable Is Forced to Remove CBS Programming

static

We had really hoped it wouldn’t come to this, but here we are:

We kept CBS on the air in hopes of productive negotiations, agreeing to several extensions past that deadline. Unfortunately, no matter how much time we give them, CBS will not come to reasonable terms and now they have refused to let us continue to carry their CBS-owned broadcast affiliates such as KCBS Los Angeles, WCBS New York, and KTVT Dallas unless we agree to their outrageous demands. And, since Showtime, TMC, Flix, Smithsonian and CBS Primetime on Demand programming are all owned by CBS television, they are now off the air as well.

We’ve prepared the following statement:

We agreed to an extension on Tuesday morning with the expectation that we would engage in a meaningful negotiation with CBS. Since then, CBS has refused to have a productive discussion. It’s become clear that no matter how much time we give them, they’re not willing to come to reasonable terms. We thank our customers for their patience and support as we continue to fight hard to keep their prices down.

The following stations, in the following locations, are no longer carried by Time Warner Cable:

• New York: WCBS
• Los Angeles: KCBS and KCAL (Ind.; carries the Dodgers)
• Desert Cities, Yuma and El Centro, CA: KCAL
• Dallas-Ft Worth: KTVT (CBS) and KTXA (Ind.)
• Boston: WBZ (CBS) and WSBK (Ind.)
*Affects the North Adams, NY (Albany); Keene, Middleton and Plymouth, NH; and Athol/Orange, MA (New England) lineups
• Pittsburgh: KDKA (CBS) and WPCW (CW)
*KDKA affects some customers in Northeast Ohio and Clarksburg, WV (KIWI); WPCW affects customers in Franklin, PA (Northeast Ohio)
• Chicago: WBBM (CBS)
*Affects customers in Kenosha and Racine, WI
• Detroit: WKBD (CW)
*Affects customers in Port Clinton, OH (Northeast Ohio)
• Denver: KCNC
*Affects some customers in PacWest, Gunnison and Telluride, CO

These negotiations also affect:

• CBS Primetime on Demand and Start Over/Look Back on the CBS stations in all TWC areas, not just the ones listed above
• Smithsonian, currently carried on the HD Tier in most areas
• Showtime, TMC and Flix premium channels (although Flix is carried on MoviePass in some areas)

So will we be reimbursed for this this time you aren’t paying CBS and we have a reduced channel lineup? Or will you just collect our money and pretend nothing happened?

  2. ingrid goldie's reply

I agree. Don’t want to pay anymore. CBS doesn’t have enough good programs to be worth it.

  3. T Bousquet's reply

If Time Warner Cable does not carry CBS or Showtime both of which I watch all the time, I will have to cancel my subscription and use another carrier. The price I pay for cable TV and the internet is way too much to not have the programs I want to watch available to me.

  4. Virginia Randall's reply

I have been a loyal customer for around 10 years. I was a customer when I lived in Florida and now in Pennsylvania. For what I pay in services all I can say is if I lose CBS and you don’t come to an agreement for CBS you will lose me.

  5. Lee's reply

It’s a shame that two companies that make so much money can’t agree to terms. The only people that truly feel the effect are the customers. Once again it is the customer that suffers. The leaders of these two companies need to grow up and start thinking about the people that pay their salary.

  6. Robert Fefferman's reply

I am extremely disgusted at TimeWarner. If my FULL service is not restored in 24 hours I will fuly cancel my years long service with TWC.

  7. Julia Reeves's reply

I have been a Time Warner Cable basic tv subscriber since 1998! My initial fee for tv was $11.99 monthly. Time Warner has gradually increased that monthly fee, while at the same time stations have been deleted! I am currently paying $18.22 monthly with fewer channels available to me, and now, CBS is not available. I am not happy with the loss of so many channels, which now includes CBS, Channel 2! I just turned the tv on to see if CBS, Channel 2 is there, but, it is not. There is just the statement about the ongoing talks between CBS and Time Warner which at this point have not reached a satisfactory conclusion. So, if this continues, I will be asking for a refund in my monthly Time Warner Cable basic tv bill. I should have asked for this long ago when the stations were no longer available, despite the increased basic tv monthly fee. I may have to look elsewhere. I recently became a Time Warner Internet subscriber, but, I don’t know how long I will continue with that.

  8. Julia Reeves's reply

My comments were prevented from being submitted! One more reason for my dissatisfaction with Time Warner Cable. I won’t repeat my previous written comments.

  9. Janis and Thomas Orshal's reply

    Dear Time Warner,

Your prices are just as outrageous. Most of what we watch are on Starz, TMC, and CBS. So extremely disappointed with both of you!!!!. I expect a big credit for this hugh inconvenence!!!

  10. J. Gambrall's reply

I am very upset that you have decided to delete programing that I have had for the past 25 years. For the amount of money I pay each month you can more than afford to pay their demands. I feel very violated that you have chosen to be a bully in this matter. I have been a loyal customer for over 25 years and HAVE never had to do without programing unless there was a major problem in the area. I will give you 7 days to resolve this issue and bring back C B S and K C AL to the Los Angeles area or I will be closing my Time Warner Account!! I have other choices!!

  11. Charles McArthur's reply

All I can say is if I had to pay a premium for CBS TV, I would not be a subscriber. Clearly their demands are outrageous. Although since subscribers pay extra for Showtime I don’t understand why that wouldn’t air? (I’m don’t subscribe to Showtime)

  12. William Ray's reply

I am furious! This is the biggest baggage of garbage. Your reputation as a cable provider has turned to *#*#. I’ve been promised from Time Warner cable I will be receiving a credit on my next bill for the service which you have not provided. I’m expecting it to be astronomical. The hierarchy at TWC must be totally incompetent. I’m paying approximately $80 a month for this monopolized service. You are a bunch of total idiots. I’m trying my darndest to keep this message vulgar free that it certainly is not easy!

  13. Jack's reply

I agree with TWC’s position to remove the channels, because CBS is asking for way too much money for a new contract. A 600% increase is outrageous!

Just to show it is not only TWC, Dish Network lost a total of over 50 stations in different markets owned by Raycom Media:

    http://www.deadline.com/2013/08/dish-network-raycom-retransmission-consent-dispute-stations-dark/

Agreements need to be fair and reasonably priced. Les Moonves (CBS’s CEO) fails to comprehend how cable subs cannot afford the rate hikes he is demanding in a struggling economy.

I hope CBS’s “Eye” eventually comes around and sees that what they are seeking from TWC’s customers is too costly for most people. It’s important for all parties to work hard by negotiating fair and reasonable prices. In situations like this, CBS needs to put principle before profit.

    Jack

  14. Chris Kurtek's reply

I was very angry today to find that not only is my cable (TV and Internet) bill going up again, but also that the main TV stations that I watch are now gone. I guess it’s easy to shift the blame to CBS, or for CBS to put the blame on TWC. All I know is I’m paying more for less. The notice of CBS channels going dark say that I can watch the shows online. Well, I can’t because they are blocked online also for TWC customers.

I guess it’s time to look for more affordable alternatives with better service.

  15. Michael Collins's reply

So am I going to get a rebate on my cable bill since this has taken Showtime (a subscription channel I pay for) along with all of the shows I watch on a weekly basis? And please don’t give me that, “Oh we’re going to give you Starz” stuff because I already subscribe to them as well.

  16. Sue Bohmer's reply

I think that the greed of CBS has caused difficulty for many of us. However, since we watch CBS more than any other station, we will be forced to leave Time Warner and go with a carrier that can provide this to us.
We are not willing to watch it on a computer or other device. We will wait a day or two and if the situation does not change we will cancel our service with Time Warner.

  17. Silvia Rodriguez's reply

Hello, my family and I are customers of Time Warner Cable and Internet, CBS is a free channel and we don’t think it is right as customers that we pay for a program that you take off the air, it is one of the best channels you have on a basic plan it is NOT fair, especially because they have our favorite shows. We could have easily had the channel FREE if we had an antenna , it doesn’t make sense why we have to pay for a channel we can get it for free. I don’t want to see it in the internet because that’s what cable is for , to watch TV.It will be nice that you put our favorite channel CBS back on the air for us and the millions of customers that are (like us) subscribed to your company. AND YES WE ARE REALLY DISSAPOINTED HOW THIS SITUATION IS BEING HANDLED.

  18. pierre paredes's reply

TWC’s greed is going to cost customers if they don’t come to an agreement with these stations. Taking the Dodgers away from it’s Los Angeles customers is just plain wrong. The monopolies cable companies have is proving how wrong it is.

  19. Randy Beardsley's reply

It is very disappointing that two major corporations. Can not come to agreement due to power struggle and indifference to loyal paying customers. Bad form on all sides, now we are forced to look into other options. Or will this be resolved? We love CBS and KTXA, No more Golf, Baseball, CSI, etc. TRAGIC!!!!!!!! Direct TV here we come,

  20. Jonathan Carr's reply

Time Warner Cable has taken Showtime off their line because they feel that CBS (which owns Showtime) has mad outrageous demands to broadcast their shows. This is calling the kettle black. TWC has made outrageous demands on its customer to lease their internet modems for $5.99 a month. You have a lot nerve….

  21. Chanelb's reply

I have been a TWC customer in Dallas for several years and despite horrible customer service / many technical issues I continued to stick with the company. Now I have learned in life there is always two sides to a story. I have seen how often TWC likes to do blackouts but now this paticular one has me upset! SHOWTIME is something I pay extra for and that is done for a reason. TWC should have asked those customers that already pay expensive bills for their opinion. Can I please get my Showtime back!

  22. Chanelb's reply

    Dallas wants Showtime back!

  23. Grant's reply

Time Warner Cable Thank you! On behalf of all your customers, Thanks for looking out for us. To keep our rates as low as possible.

  24. Linda Cantiello's reply

I will definitly leave time warnèr if this problem is not resolved,we pay more than enough to watch the stations available to our area, CBS is a must

  25. Troy Cole's reply

I want my Showtime back…………I don’t care anything about Starz or whatever you are replacing Showtime with. I’m paying for Showtime and I expect to get what I’m paying for……..this is total CRAP and is UNACCEPTABLE! You provide cable TV for your customers…..well……ummm……..until now………..thanks a lot for your unwillingness to provide the services for which WE are paying for.

  26. Mary-Pat Schaefer's reply

If TWC is not successful in returning CBS to the air prior to the start of the football season I will be switching to Fios, or perhaps a dish system.

  27. Karen's reply

I don’t know the details of the negotiations, but I think it’s unacceptable for consumers to lose CBS and Showtime. TWC and CBS need to figure things out, and not inconvenience the customers, who pay a lot of money for these services. If this continues, we’ll have to cancel TWC and switch to another carrier.

  28. shianti's reply

I am so sick of time warner cable and CBS. I watch these channels and they take our money and do what ever they want with it. I am tired of paying bills and consistently at the mercy of people that sneeze at my annual income!!! Over loosing channels every year. Non of them have our best interest at heart it all politics as displayed by the fact that we can’t see other peoples comments!!!

  29. John Riley's reply

Bottom lime is if you don’t fix this by the time Homeland starts, I cancel cable

  30. Mark Harding's reply

It’s disappointing to not have access to CBS programming, but my TW bill is too high already. Additional costs mean higher rates which I am not will to support.

  31. sme's reply

CBS has blocked ALL time warner Internet customers from watching their videos at CBS.com. First is this legal for them to block specific people because of where they get their internet not based on something the person has done at their site (abuse etc) ? What about the people that only have TW for internet, not cable tv?

  32. Flash1's reply

I, for one of about 10,000,000 people that live in the largest two counties in California would much prefer to have local news and programming rather than another L.A.based network channel over 100 miles away. At present, I pay premium for your service and extra for a San Diego based channel which is still 60 miles away. There isn’t a regular TV station in the area mentioned.PLEASE give this request a serious consideration. There are many thriving businesses, Business Districts, and residential developments in this wide area that truly deserve better coverage than we get. PLEASE consider the broadcasting opportunities, advertising, and the markets that can be accessed… Thanks for your attention.

  33. Sandra's reply

I am horrified – shame on TWC! There is no excuse in not reaching an agreement. People who live in areas which have no other cable choice are affected thanks to the greediness of the cable company. I pay a small fortune to TWC, our only entertainment outlet due to the illness of my husband who, for example, is unable to go out to the movies. So far we are receiving CBS, but I imagine that will not last. Even if it does, I am so sorry for others like us who are affected by this most unfortunate decision.

  34. Rick von Heydenreich's reply

My assumption is that you will be reimbursing us for the contracted services you are not providing.

  35. Steve Donner's reply

I’m extremely disappointed in TWC over these turn of events. You get one week to sort it out, after which I go looking for a different cable provider. Seems Time Warner Cable cares more about profits than serving their customers.

  36. Alex Blanton's reply

Most of my friends in NYC agree, TWC has arguably the worst customer service of any company they patronize. This dispute with CBS is but one more example.

Over a year ago, TWC discontinued the NBC channel, Universal Sports Network, for the same reason. That situation has not been resolved, so TWC customers have been deprived of an entire season (or is it two) of intense winter sports coverage, including every alpine skiing World Cup competition, which Universal Sports covers in depth, plus figure skating, bobsled, luge, biathlon, and the like. Similarly, TWS customers are currently being deprived of coverage of many other sports not regularly seen on network TV, such as track and field, soccer, rugby, triathlon, cycling, and others.

Given its reputation for poor service, it’s not surprising that TWC is seeking to blame CBS for this standoff and claims it is “helping” its viewers by seeking to keep its rates down. I want TWC to know I am ready and willing to pay my full fare – just provide the coverage you promised when we signed up.

  37. Heather McWee's reply

I am very upset that TWC will not be offering Showtime or CBS on demand. I would like to know if this is permanent or temporary because if it cannot be resolved in a short period of time my family and I will be forced to drop TWC. I am not looking forward to going to Directv again or loosing my TWC internet but I pay a lot of $$$ already and if I cannot get the shows I want, I will have to .

  38. Randall L. Beaudoin's reply

TWC is saying how unfair it is for CBS to raise their rates without an increase in services and at the same time I just received notice that TWC is raising rates by 100% on modem rentals and 15% on their internet service, which was changed recently and now works poorly. Does anyone else feel that this is very disingenuous? TWC wants CBS to provide more service to justify their increase but is raising my rates without providing me with any more services or value than I already have

  39. Linda Ifri's reply

Fix this problem with CBS, Showtime and all other channels that I pay Time Warner a large amount of money for each month for the programing. . I will cancel my services with Time Warner services, refuse to watch any CBS programming, get an antenna, and use my Roku streaming system and watch all my favorite movies, and T.V on Netflicks, Amazon and all the other channels I enjoy for a minimal monthly fee.

  40. Linda Ifri's reply

I EXPECT A REFUND FROM TIME WARNER FOR SHOWTIME AND OTHER CHANNELS EFFECTED BY THIS GREEDY DISPUTE WITH CBS AND IT’S AFFILIATES.

  41. Walter Old's reply

Will have to leave time warner cable, it’s just ridiculous to pay so much money and not get CBS, which has the best shows. Might as well just watch everything on the internet.

  42. Barbara's reply

    People – Did You Know….
Time Warner Cable has taken nearly 50 channels off the air in the last five years in disputes with content providers.

Showtime Networks gave Time Warner Cable the opportunity to keep SHOWTIME on the air—even if an agreement could not be achieved—so viewers would not have to lose the channels they chose and they paid for. Time Warner Cable declined this offer.
Time Warner Cable’s decision to shut SHOWTIME down only serves to hurt the very people they claim they are trying to protect—their own customers. Call TWC today and voice your displeasure over their decisions and poor negotiation skills. Or better yet vote with your dollars, cancel your TWC subscription and contact AT&T or Dish for programing that STAYS on the air.

  43. angela's reply

glad to have starz, at least its something… i want starz on demand since i had showtime and that on demand. its only right. what are you going to do to replace tmc?

  44. Peggy's reply

I highly doubt that CBS is responsible for the problems customers have incurred. TW is always so quick to blame others and to never take ownership or responsibility for what the customers experience. The current issue with CBS is most likely due to CBS not agreeing to the demands of TW. And just to give merit to this, I’d like to ask how the TW customers are being compensated for receiving less channels than what they are paying for. From personal experience, I’d have to say no compensation is being provided. Repeated lack of respect for it’s customers is TW’s general philosophy. Simply saying “I’m sorry for any difficulties you are experiencing,” does not mean anything to me any more. I’ve heard it way too many times. Actions speak louder than words. TW’s words mean nothing to me any more.

  45. Linda's reply

Time Warner Cable is behaving poorly towards its subscribers, especially those who pay extra for the premium services of Showtime & TMC. I believe that subscribers should band together and begin a class action lawsuit against Time Warner Cable for breach of contract with their subscribers.

  46. Christine Kotsonis's reply

Get yourselves back to the table and negotiate the deal. We want Showtime back! Or we will be switching tv providers ASAP!

  47. RODNEY L. YOUNGER's reply

I know that you are in negotiations with CBS but that does not take into account that I’m losing the programing options that I was promised by Time Warner Cable. I expect to be compensated by TWC for channels I’ve not been able to view. I have signature home and current have all the channels available and paying what I pay, which is over $250 a month I do expect to be credited for the amount of time lost on those channels. I watch those channels often.

  48. Rebecca Ban's reply

You suck!!!! You are going to raise the cable bills anyway now you have an excuse. I would switch to Fios but unfortunately you are the ONLY game in town. Bring back CBS and fire your CEO and board of directors and get real people who understand people. t

  49. Rebecca Ban's reply

Fire Jeff Simmermon he has to be a idiot to take of CBS.

  50. joseph polgar's reply

I do not care about your negotiation with CBS , You Time Warner Cable Co. and I have a contractual agreement that you provide the subscribed channels what I pay for no matter what, you are violating this agreement because I can not watch CBS channels and Showtimes, furthermore investigating a possible class action lawsuit against youTWC, not against CBS. Joseph Polgar.

  51. Steve A.'s reply

Alright so the negotiations are not going as planned and CBS is asking for more money for the shows that are actually “Public Access”. Logic tells me that if that is actually the whole truth, then CBS and their affiliate stations would have been either pulled off from being shown all-across the Time Warner Cable Network or CBS would have refused to let Time Warner Cable continue to carry their CBS-owned broadcast affiliates throughout the Time Warner Cable Network, not on select few locations. Just makes me wonder!

  52. Bill Desmond's reply

    Good day,

I hope the dispute with CBS is resolved quickly. I am a new TWC customer and have to say that if the dispute is not resolved shortly, I will cancel my service and move to another provider. Good luck with the negotiations.

  53. TW Cable Cust's reply

Ive been a customer of TW Cable for over 20 years. I have their blazing SLOW cable internet. It runs AT 1 MPS download speed (YES, THAT IS a one), yet it is claimed to be 10 or 50 mps. Upload speeds are 1/4 mps (yes, that is 250 kps), TURTLE slow (with a direct hard wired cat-5 connection), not even on the scale of what cable internet speed should be. This CBS disaster is the icing on the cake. PLEASE, go out and BUY a $50 HD converter box for yourself (Wally has ‘em). You will be amazed at how many CRYSTAL clear HDTV stations you will get. Many are 1080P, and are fabulous. IT IS FREE! I have added more and more of these with amazing results. Using “Rabbit Ear” antenna, or a simple 6″ copper loop (any UHF oldster type). I live way out, and I get 16 top stations. Everyone who sees mine, goes out and gets one (regardless of their cable OR satellite service). Bye bye Time Warner Cable.

  54. Ruth Schuff's reply

Can not believe CBS is being dropped! I really enjoy this network and would miss it dearly. Direct TV is an alternative. I pay almost $200 monthly to Time Warner Cable. How many of these accounts are you willing to risk.

  55. Sean Yokota's reply

Good riddance. I’m sure their demands would have only raised my bill for a bloated network in a rapidly declining market. I for one have no use for CBS and would not miss them.

  56. Ann W's reply

So, who am I supposed to be angry at – TWC or CBS or both. This is the last season of Dexter! Now, I can’t see the rest of it. And what about Homeland?! Surely there is some way to reach an agreement – quickly!!!!

  57. Dennis Brown's reply

As a subscriber outside the markets that seem to be the focus of the dispute, I am not amused. Out here in flyover country, I pretty much don’t care what the folks in NYC pay for CBS programming on cable and I don’t appreciate losing access to services I pay for (CBS on demand and Showtime) while you sort it out. You were kind enough to explain how to get access to CBS programming via their website, but if you have not looked, they do not stream complete programs, only clips.

This dispute has cut my services two days after you inform me my bill is increasing $33 per month and will go up another $3 next month as you increase the modem rental fee, and I pay $15 a month for Showtime alone. You don’t suppose CBS has the same problems you have, do you? Rising costs and decreasing profit? You turn to your customer to improve your margin, that seems like all this is about for them too, CBS comes to their customer and explains, it costs a lot of money to produce programming for Showtime and CBS, we need you to pay more.

My conclusion is much like the rest, a pox on both your houses, sit down and settle the dispute. If you cave and it does what you say, it will damage CBS as much as it does you as they will lose viewers, but you will still have a product to sell. If you drop them from your lineup, they lose viewers, but you still have a product to sell. If they can’t operate profitably on what you offer, then they are doomed anyway.

  58. Your Name Paul McDonald's reply

Since I am receiving fewer channels my cost will go down, right? How much will my bill be reduced?

  59. cynthia's reply

I JUST CHANGED MY SERVICE FROM VERIZON YO YOU.GET CBS BACK OR MAYBE I WILL GO BACK TO THEM

  60. CYB0RG's reply

This isn’t about CBS needing to raise rates in order to be profitable. This is about CBS gouging us for more money in order to maintain RECORD profits. Extreme greed is destroying our nation. If the greed wipes us out economically, then who will they sell their product to?

  61. RSM's reply

Thanks for giving your customers the final reason to leave. Your service is overpriced compared to DirectTV. Any advantage you had is gone with your actions regarding the CBS contract renewal. What ever they charge you will ultimately pass on to the consumers. If we don’t like your price, we will leave. Let the market control this industry not some conduit provider. TV on the internet will destroy your broadcast service and I relish the day it happens. BOHICA to you!

  62. Terry Murphy's reply

I am leaving TWC today. Stop doing this to your customers. You are greedy.

  63. Don Hersko's reply

Just get them back on the air. Why is it that TWC is the only cable company to have these outages due to disputes when every other cable company offers the same lineup with no outages at a more than competitive price? You are not the only cable company in town. I did not pick you, I inherited you through Insight. The Smithsonian Channel is one of my favorite and most watched channels. Get it back on the air.

  64. Showtime Viewer's reply

Showtime put out a statement they offered to allow you to continue transmitting their signal while you negotiate. Were they lying? Is there some reason to black out a service I pay for while you negotiate this? I can’t see your logic here.

  65. marilyn Loesberg's reply

I will have to go to satellite. Showtime is most of what I watch on TV.

  66. Steve S.'s reply

Well were to begin? Two years ago AT&T came thru offering Uverse. the price of TWC was comparable, so I said “no thanks, happy where I am”.
Since then my cable bill jumped 40% when the “plan” ended, with no option to renew. Now we have this situation. While CBS wants an increase, I seriously doubt it is 600% across the board. So I am online pricing Uverse today, and it looks like I can save some money as well.
My Husband is furious and is ready to march the cable box back to the cable store. So it’s time for you to maybe dig into the 6% year to year profit increase you just posted and give us back what we are paying for already.

  67. CYB0RG's reply

It is amazing to me that CBS is claiming that costs are forcing them to raise rates. How tough is it to be the #1 ranked prime time network, especially after posting an 11% increase in net income for the second quarter of this year for a total second quarter net income of $472,000,000. In fact, in an article dated July 31, 2013, Roger Yu of USA Today quoted CBS CEO Leslie Moonves as follows…”Double-digit revenue growth — and the best quarterly profits we’ve ever had — add up to a phenomenal quarter for CBS”.

  68. Phoebe Adams's reply

I was very unhappy to find out I no longer have Showtime or the Movie Channel today. I can appreciate the difficulty of negotiations for both TWC and CBS. No matter what agreement is reached I am certain that as the customer I will eventually be the one paying for it one way or another. Perhaps if so-called celebrities weren’t paid ridiculous sums of money for TV and movies the rest of us could afford to watch TV. We went after Wall Street big-wigs and their outrageous bonuses, now it is time to address the salaries paid to actors and athletes! Nothing they do is worth millions!

  69. alan potts's reply

This is ludicrous, TWC got my business so that I could watch PGA Tour golf at the weekends.
If I am unable to follow my favourite programme at the weekend in future I will have to get my TV service from elsewhere.

Get it sorted even if it means digging into the profits that TWC make from us subscribers year after year.

  71. Marc Roth's reply

Once again TWC shows they could care less about the customer. What’s more insulting is them telling the customer what they are going to “give” us as a replacement. You can’t replace CBS. Make sure as a customer to issue a complaint with the Attorney generals office, Public Utility Board and FCC in your state. Make sure to request a refund for the following stations. Showtime, The Movie Channel, Smithsonian and of course CBS. TWC has REFUSED as a matter of corporate policy to credit any account for those stations. You do have rights. Exercise them and file complaints.

  72. Robert Bruce's reply

TWC, the “outrageous demands” being made by affiliates is a smokescreen for your latest marketing strategy. As announced in numerous business media, instead of improving service & your ancient infrastructure for your cable subscribers (a dwindling market share), you have decided to put the bite on local affiliates. Whom you’ll only pay 1/100th of your total basic cable charge. Additionally, in the Desert Cities, you summarily cut off all Showtime channels with no visible notice (right before the weekend, nice). There had better be a credit on our next bill for every minute Showtime programming & NBC is off the air. I believe in free enterprise, but not robber-baron monopolistic exploitation. SATTELITE IN MY FUTURE? Thank you.

  73. Cindy Boutte's reply

Why is TWC saying that CBS wants a 600% increase? Somebody needs to get the story straight. I’ve been a TWC customer for over 25 years. I have been approached by satellite that can give me a much lower price. I don’t want to switch, but the is ridiculous. Somebody needs to fix this. How can DISH offer such low prices? I know of two customers that switched and the price is half of what I pay for more. You did not have to blackout CBS, but you did any way, just to get more money from your customers. Shame on both CBS and TWC!!

  74. Bruce Provencher's reply

this is not right and also similar to direct tv and the new time warner cable sports channel. you people are making billions of dollars and the consumer is being sodimized having to pay higher prices for the same thing. get it together and quit depriving the public of what they already pay for. also for those of us that are paying for showtime i would assume there will be a discount of our bill until you get this mess straightened out. you are both pointing fingers.

  75. G. RENARD's reply

I have only signed up with TWC back in march, the deal was I would get Showtime for a year and CBS. What am I getting in return ? HBO? Or does it mean I now have the freedom to break my contract? Questions have been sent and asked but no response. I believe law suit is the way forward now, first for an answer and compensation or followed by anti trust and anti competitive actions, without consultation.

  76. Karen McDonald's reply

Please bring Showtime and Showtime on demand back, it is the only thing we watch on Saturday night. How much will our bill go down?

  77. glorious glutton's reply

When does the greed stop ? If this is not resolved by the end of the week ,I will be FORCED to remove you; bye bye twc.

  78. Kimberly Tennant's reply

So it’s been a few days… Are CBS & TWC gonna be able to come to terms, or what? I REALLY don’t feel like switching over to AT&T Uverse, but everyone swears by it…

  79. Perri Newell's reply

We will be expecting a refund for the channels we have paid for but are not receiving. This is making FIOS or Dish look pretty good. You are quite profitable and it is ridiculous to hold us captive. There is always a sacred cow behind any negotiations and it is hard to believe this is just about an increase in fees on CBSs part.

  80. Andrea's reply

I pay for Showtime, not Starz. Time Warner Cable obviously has an extreme disregard for their customers. If this is not resolved shortly, I will be switching to satellite TV.

  81. Andrea's reply

I pay for Showtime, not Starz. Time Warner is showing an extreme disregard for their customers. If this issue is not resolved shortly, I will switch to satellite TV.

  82. Bob McGraw's reply

Very disappointed in your inability to resolve this dispute in a timely manner. I was a beta tester for Comcast, then Adelphia and now TW all from the same location here in Southern California.

If we or at least I am not compensated monetarily for this interruption you can consider me a “past customer”. Am definitely considering switching providers.

    Do the right thing!

  83. A bucci's reply

Interesting you pulled CBS on a Friday At 5 pm making it nearly impossible to get another provider to set up an installation appointment be fore Monday. I am furious we will not get a rebate for the day CBS is off the system. Do you really think we are so dumb, as to believe that “it is part of a package” therefore, unless the whole package goes dark we are getting what we paid for? The day I can cancel your service will be one of the top 10 days in my life. Have been a customer since 1985 at this address ans for years prior. The last 10 years have been a nightmare. Both sides in this are screwing the folks who keep you in business, however I blame you for not asking your customers if they want you to wage this war on their behalf. I an encouraging everyone who has your service to dump it ASAP.

  84. Bob Hurley's reply

Quit the haggling and get CBS back. I don’t need you to tell me how bad they are – you are both at fault. Another week and I will drop you and get satellite

  85. Penny Bloom's reply

I still don’t understand why we cannot have our Showtime when Showtime itself is offering to keep it available to us during these negotiations. What is your reasoning for this refusal on your part?

  86. Penny Bloom's reply

Why can’t we have Showtime when they are offering to let us keep it during your negotiations?

  87. D Player's reply

Since TW has reduced the stations available, please reduce my payment due relative to the reduced services. Your replacement channels are pointless for my TV viewing.

  88. M Arnold's reply

Once again we are facing a’ time out’ with the CBS channel while Time Warner and CBS ‘dicker’ over costs. Are we too, the consumer, allowed to stop paying our bill to Time Warner as we are not receiving all the channels signed up for? Seems only fair, yes?

  89. Sylvia's reply

I will cancel TWC and never look back if this is not resolved by the end of the week. Very disappointed in how it has been handled!

  90. Tami's reply

Bring back CBS and the related channels. You all need to make it happen to satisfy your customers.

  91. Steve Zdravkovich's reply

As a loyal Time Warner subscriber my family and I are very upset over losing
Showtime as several of the shows we watch on a weekly basis will be lost
with it. We will at least be receiving a discount on our cable bill ? We have
heard there will be a substitution but there is no substitute for Nurse Jackie,
    Ray Donovan, Dexter.

  92. Robert orellanes's reply

How do we get showtime back

  93. Sean Oates's reply

Well, this just makes my decision so much easier now to switch to AT&T U-Verse. I have had nothing but trouble since the change from Insight to Time Warner Cable. I have heard NOTHING good from any of my fellow TWC users. The fact that you all have ruined my Sunday evening of viewing Dexter, that’s the icing on the cake for me. You can blame CBS all you want, but it is you who are unable to negotiate on behalf of your customers to keep programming that we are paying for. So long TWC, worst cable/Internet service I have ever had. And you did all of this in such a short time too. Cheers to you.

  94. Sean Oates's reply

    You inhale rapidly!

  95. John's reply

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. Sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner boardrooms of Time Warner to those of CBS.

  96. Bill Warren's reply

Nonsense. You chose to remove CBS et al, you weren’t ” forced” to. You want your customers to complain to CBS, but they haven’t done a thing to your customers. YOU have, and no other. It’s hard to take a side when both antagonists are huge, incredibly wealthy corporations battling over a relatively small amount of money. But I am against the company that chooses to punish us own subscribers. Time Warner has done this in the past. I will start looking for another cable provider–and so will thousands of others.

  97. james dishon's reply

I am disgusted with both CBS and Time Warner. I have paid for Showtime and because neither you can’t negotiate a contract I am held hostage!! Shame on both of you for not honoring your contact and dragging me into the middle of outrageous demands and unreasonable business practices.

  98. Tyler Byron's reply

Haven’t missed CBS or KCAL at all.

    We can do without them.

You guys (TWC) are already bombarding us with too many commercials anyway. I just flat don’t listen to them any more.

  99. Maneesh Pangasa's reply

Time Warner Cable customers in areas like New York and Boston (service in Houston TX coming soon) have the option in this blackout to use Aereo a web streaming service that picks up CBS signals for free over the air along with other broadcast companies stations whether ABC or NBC affiliated channels. Also no matter where one lives they can use a TV antenna for free over the air TV.

  100. Annonymous's reply

Unfortunately, neither the consumers nor CBS has an legal recourse here. The “must carry” laws require that cable companies retransmit any content provided to them by local broadcasters, and that the broadcasters are allowed to charge the cable companies. However, if they do attempt to charge, the cable company is not obligated to accept those terms, or to retransmit any content that is not provided freely.

So, if CBS wants the station back on, they can force the issue by not charging TWC. However, at that point TWC will have “won” by getting the content to their customers at not cost to themselves. If CBS decides to withold their content from TWC customers, it quickly becomes who caves to their potential losses first: TWC starting to lose subscribers, or CBS losing its ad revenue in addition to the retransmission fees.

  101. Maneesh Pangasa's reply

Time Warner Cable customers living in Boston and New York can use Aereo the legal web streaming service that picks up the free over the air transmissions (via antenna) of broadcast stations and for a low monthly fee pipes it thru the Web to user’s devices to get their CBS fix (that CBS and other broadcasters are ironically suing)- soon customers in the Dallas TX area may also be use to Aereo once it arrives in Texas or you can just use an antenna for free over the air signals no matter where you live whether Aereo is in your market or not. It’s interesting that Time Warner isn’t criticizing CBS for violating the spirit of Net Neutrality by blocking TWC Internet customers from watching free TV on CBS.com although they are critical of CBS for blocking out its site – they for obvious reasons won’t pull the Net Neutrality card (as TWC has violated Net Neutrality before as a service provider)

  102. Ian Simmons's reply

Who cares, leave them off – especially showtime. The content was weak and useless, better they go under than continue to be the reason behind price increases!

  103. Lani Egnatchik's reply

I can’t even begin to tell you how angry we are that we no longer have CBS and the Smithsonian channel. But CBS???!!! Come on! It’s one of the top 3 channels for decades now. We already feel the impact with yesterday not having 60 Minutes which was a Sunday ritual for years now. This morning and every weekday morning, we could not watch CBS Morning News at 7am like we always do. And if we can’t watch NFL football come this September….We will DEFINITELY be leaving Time Warner Cable. You did the Bait and Switch to us and we are EXTREMELY UPSET by your cable politics at our expense!!

  104. Elizabeth Fresh's reply

Since I am billed $15.99/month for Showtime and pay a month in advance, will I receive a refund on my bill? While I appreciate you trying to keep the cable bill from getting higher, I don’t appreciate losing access to shows I watch each week. Personally, I’m sure as much as we all pay for cable there should be room between the the cable companies and the networks to charge reasonable rates for services rendered. Unfortunately, all of you are greedy. Work it out or I may be forced to take my business elsewhere.

  105. Larry Miller's reply

CBS and TWC have, together, agreed to make the only victims of their brouhaha be the viewers who have placed trust in them. Professional negotiators like Herb Cohen (who may be retired) could have scheduled meetings so that I would not miss a crucial ep of Dexter, etc., while you work things out. “Why is this negotiation different from all other negotiations?” It probably is not. You are strafing bystanders.

Overall I’ve been very satisfied with TWC for TV and Internet. This is NOT how you treat a proper customer, especially one of longstanding. —Fix it today. And thank you.

  106. Kelly Leeming's reply

YOU, not CBS, have taken away 5 of our favorite shows. If this is not fixed within ONE WEEK, we will be going to DirecTV or Dish!! This is not an empty threat and I’m positive we’re not alone.

    Get it together. VERY disappointing!!!

  107. Robert Slone's reply

I am so sick and tired of hearing about what other people won’t do for you. And you say this bickering is to keep the price down. Well it might keeping your price down but you keep raising ours. You are the cause of me going to satellite where prices are lower and they care about their customers. I hope the networks keep refusing your demands. In Sept. I’m going to satellite. GO AND SMELL THE ROSE’S!

  108. Jeff Simmermon's reply

@Elizabeth Fresh – Actually, you will. On your next bill you will see credits for lost Showtime programming, prorated from the date of the blackout, reimbursing you for each day of lost programming.

  109. Jeff Simmermon's reply

@Steve – You’ll certainly be receiving credits for your lost Showtime programming, prorated by each day of lost programming for the blackout.

  110. Judy Tomasulo's reply

As a subscriber paying $140 per month (1/10th of my fixed income), I am very upset to lose CBS. May I assume I can deduct a significant amount from my next month’s bill to reflect the loss of the best quality programming on television? Clearly this is a p***ing contest and the end result will be a billing increase. Most consumers are wise to these games by now. So wrap up the “they did it”…..”it’s not our fault”…..nonsense and at least give your captive customers a little respect.

  111. Kay's reply

I hope TWC suffers the largest class action lawsuit in history over refusing to pay CBS and depriving subscribers of programming due to their incessant greed. The best thing that could happen would be TWC being sued into bankruptcy. Then we would get another other cable company, maybe one who pays their bills, and we would be rid of TWC once and for all. Apparently none of TWC’s filthy rich greedy executives are willing to part with their fat bonus checks, so instead they decide to rob subscribers of CBS and rob CBS of their retransmission fees leaving subscribers in the middle. TWC — such a bunch of jerks!

  112. Diana's reply

I see that CBS is likely being greedy and playing dirty: http://www.keepcbs.com/
I don’t want my cable service to increase because of their greed. I’ll wait it out. Sometimes you just have to punch a bully in the mouth. Thanks for having the “ca hones” to call bull$#!%, TWC!

  113. Sandra Ingram's reply

Why? Why can’t two companies come to a compromise? Why are the customers the only ones who are being affected? Why should I stay with Time Warner?

  114. Stephen Szewczyk's reply

After 12 plus years I am totally disgusted with TWC. You keep blaming CBS. I hold your company responsible for what I view on Tv. You are not giving me what we contracted for. I am seriously considering ATT for all my services including TV, Phone and internet. They are doing all possible to earn my business. You are ignoring us as customers. Unless something happens soon you will just have to remember me as a loyal PAST customer.

  115. vicki's reply

I am a fairly new subscriber to TWC and not by choice. Only reason I have TWC in the first place is because of where I live. My choices were……. the cable company I’m allowed to have for this area or satellite TV with a 2 year contract. REALLY????

When I became a “NEW” customer TWC made me all kinds of promises too. $100.00 gift card for being a new customer, I NEVER GOT IT. Once my 3 months was up and I paid my $110.00 bill every month on time. They came up with the excuse that because I couldn’t provide them with an old bill from an old cable company I no longer qualify for this rebate that was promised to me. TWC promised me 3 months of free showtime, I NEVER GOT IT. They would turn on showtime then charge me for it on my next bill. As soon as I call them to tell them it was promised to me for free for 3 month they would remove the charges AND TURN OFF SHOWTIME. They did this 3 months IN A ROW. Which meant I got the nightmare task of calling TWC every month my bill came in only to spend 2 to 3 hours on the phone being transferred to different people, explaining my situation over and over. My TWC experience so far has been a complete night mare.

Now I learn that I can no longer watch CBS because these big wigs cant agree on something??? REALLY?? The only people this is effecting is the SUBSCRIBERS. They all still go home to their fine mansions and fancy cars so what do they care. It is US the people who line their pockets to have that kind of life style, but we have to suffer while they decide who’s d**k is bigger.

Let me also add….. CBS YOUR NO BETTER…… 70% of the TV I watch is on CBS, Young and Restless, Survivor, Amazing race, Big Brother, Under the Dome to just to name a few, and just because I live where I live and I am forced to have TWC I am punished by you too, by blocking me on the internet. If I could afford to move to another place just 3 minutes away where ATT is the carrier I wouldn’t be sitting here without all my favorite programs. But I CANT afford that, nor can I afford to pay 50.00 a month more for TV to change to satellite TV. So Im basically screwed either way and again I get no choice in this matter.

Both CBS and TWC have been a huge disappointment, Empty promises, Lies, and for what????

Which one of you woke up one morning and decided to screw over all the loyal customers you have so you can get a bigger house or that faster car you wanted?? It is ME and all the other viewers out there that even allow you to have that life style in the first place. While I am forced to make decisions like…. do I get groceries this month or do I get my son his insulin this month. One of the few luxuries I have is cable TV and now it is the same price for me just more limited. That $100.00 dollar gift card you promised me but never got, may not be much money to you but it is like a million dollars to me and could of really helped myself and son in these terrible times.

I have no respect what so ever for TWC and CBS.

  118. Carolyn Jonkey's reply

I expect to see a credit on my bill for channels 2 and 9.

How dare you try to put the monkey on my back and make this my problem by suggesting I purchase an antenna. This is an old and outdated management technique. This is your problem. Fix it or I will be forced to go to another carrier.

  119. tony palumbo's reply

I realize that there are two organizations involved in this struggle. My respect for both of them has declined. No matter how you look at it, the customer is the real loser. I do have options and will most likely change to a different provider in the near future. Not want I want to do, but seems to be my only choice.

  120. Mary's reply

Both parties are wrong. I pay a lot of money for my cable and internet – I am tired of being held hostage. The fact that I cannot watch a CBS show on my iPad because I have Time Warner cable makes me even angrier. Settle this thing.

  121. Elena's reply

I am currently with Direct TV and I was going to switch to time warner when my contract was up. However, I will not be doing that now. Most of the show I watch are on CBS and I don’t believe that Time Warner would not do whatever it takes to keep CBS. Please reconsider!
    Thanks,
    Elena

  122. Mary's reply

According to CBS whom i talked with today. They did not cancel anything. Time Warner made the decision to block CBS. And you are not telling the truth. I will tell you this. If it isn’t settled by Monday. Many of us have banded together and thus far there are 375 plus just in our area alone who are switching to Dish on Monday. We will not be coming back to Time Warner. Shame on you TW.

  123. Dyanna Eck's reply

TWC already charges some of the highest cable fees in the country, and every year removes another channel or two from Standard Service in a passive-aggressive effort to force customers to “bump up” to the next, even more expensive tier of channels. I have no sympathy for TWC’s “troubles” and have reported this dereliction of services already paid for to the FCC. I hope all other customers will do likewise. I am fed up.

  124. Lucille's reply

I just moved to Greenville from Pittsburgh in July. I was so happy when I signed up for Time Warner Cable that I would still be able to view at least one local (KDKA) channel. I was very disappointed when I went to watch the news on August 2nd only to find that I no longer get channel 16. I sure hope that someone continues to try to come to some agreement with CBS.

  125. Sharon Fay's reply

We work hard & one relaxing & enjoyable pass time is watching our TV. Two of our favorite stations are CBS & Showtime. We wait patiently for months for Dexter, Homeland & now a new favorite Ray Donovan. We pay for those channels. They are not free & we are vey disappointed & frustrated that we are in the middle of this dispute. Hoping this is solved soon. Need my Dexter fix. Please!!!!

  126. louise's reply

Im not even a time warner cable customer but this is just plain wrong. People are paying good money for what? To watch fuzz on a screen? Thats rediculious. Shame on you for cheating people, out of a well earned. station

  127. Jerri Jackson's reply

My TWC bill is the most expensive bill that I pay each month – so, I’m guessing TWC can afford to pay the CBS price for service! My DVR is not connected this week due to a remodel job in my home. So, thanks to technology, I grab my laptop to watch my Young and the Restless online and I am DENIED ACCESS to the CBS.COM site because of this dispute! This totally gripes my behind!!! My TWC bill is grossly expensive for the services that I subscribe … phone, internet, standard TV … no premium channels … and now only HALF the internet …. but my bill won’t go down!!
